Team Responsibilities and Lessons Learned

  • Designed segments of levels to be procedurally placed ahead of the player
  • Created the system to procedurally build the level by assigning different score values to different probability tables of next level segments
  • Managed team schedule and plans for future work sessions
  • Implemented scrolling parallax background
  • Implemented background music and sound effects
  • There's a lot to be learned in replicating what works
In re-creating the gameplay and feel of an existing game, a lot of decision points led us to realizing why certain decisions in the design were made the way that they were. That extra insight taught me a lot about game design, even outside of the context of the project we were working on.
  • Focusing on the goals of the project make for a more refined product
The goal going into Godot Jump was to learn more about the Godot engine and work on specific game design practices for personal and professional improvement. With those goals at the forefront, we were able to cut down on offshoot ideas that didn't meet our original intentions. By keeping the workflow focused, we learned more of what we wanted in a shorter amount of time, and were able to keep note of the other features for research and practice at a later date.
